The Inaugural Ignite WordCamp Lineup

After weeks of proposing, a couple days of voting, and a fair share of drama, I’m happy to announce the inaugural Ignite WordCamp lineup! Here in alphabetical order are the seven speakers who will be on stage for Ignite WordCamp:

Chris Beaman – WordPress as a CMS solution for local service providers

Wordpress has the potential to become THE content management system for small businesses, specifically local service providers (laborers, restaurants, etc.). Imagine a platform where, a restaurant for example, could build their own dynamic website, including plugins featuring online ordering through Foodler, maps from Google and reviews through Yelp. It would be an innovative and inexpensive way to offer more local businesses an opportunity to create an interactive, manageable web presence.

Eric Buth – “Yo dawg, I heard you like publishing platforms…”

Originally described in 4-year-old post on the Daily WTF, the “inner-platform effect” was extremely well captured by the Xzibit “Yo Dawg” meme of this past year. The WordPress community (and really all developers) are constantly struggling with Pimp-My-Ride-type over integration problems. This is a 5 minute intervention for the plugin writers and platform builders among us.

Michael Erlewine – You’d Beta’ Test Your Plugins!

While the rich ecosystem of plugins is part of the joy of WordPress, poorly tested plugins can be a nightmare for both users and developers. I’ll talk about how users can easily get involved in beta testing and how developers can encourage it and benefit.

Danielle Morrill – Getting the Money Shot: Making Screencasts Without Going Insane
Producing a useful screencast, where an online product or service is demonstrated for the user and they are introduced to the UI of your website, can increase the number of people who convert to customers. This talk will leave viewers with practical advise for creating their own screencast, including a list of tools and resources. It will also outline some of the things to avoid, the pyschology of the editor, and how thinking like a porn director will help you be sure to achieve the “”money shot”". Take 1 Mac, 1 Flipcam HD, a whole lot of coffee, and one really sleep deprived Danielle and hilarity ensues.

Kevin Palmer – Turning WordPress Into a Social Media Dashboard

WordPress can be harnessed to act as a social media dashboard where you route your monitoring, analytics, and outbound communication through the WordPress dashboard. This is great for individuals and organizations to streamline their social media monitoring and response work flows.

Michael Susz – Short Codes: Pain Free Magic

Many people i meet are unaware that they can mix output from php functions into editable content in WordPress; from simple things like displaying the current date, to retrieving & formatting data and flowing it into a page. my talk will introduce people to short codes, explain how powerful they are, and how they can be customized with attributes.

Brad Williams – Top WordPress Plugins You’ve Never Heard Of

Learn about the most amazing unheard of plugins that exist! Presentation will include 20 of the best plugins you’ve never heard of.

Congratulations to all! I will email all speakers later today regarding slides.
