Monetization in a Free World

How do you make money off of something that is free? That is just one of the questions I hope to answer with the help of four leaders that have been successful doing just that with WordPress. Each panelist brings something to the table:

Carl Hancock will represent the perspective of commercial plugins. He is one of the team members behind GravityForms, a commercial plugin that takes form generation to a new level.

Brian Gardner, owner of StudioPress.com, will give us insight into managing a successful business that sells themes.

Joshua Strebel operates Page.ly, a service that aims to provide the ease of WordPress.com with the freedom provided the WordPress.org software. It’s a unique combination that appears to be paying off.

Jane Wells is employed by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, and will provide a unique perspective on the relationship between commercialized WordPress.com and the free and open WordPress.org project.

Although I have a few questions of my own for the panelists, this session is aimed at being a learning experience for all in attendance. Audience participation will play a large role in the success of this panel so be ready to ask questions to our “been there, done that” panelists!
