WordPress MU treats the admin account differently because it&#039;s really a WPMU site admin account.  Here is a forum thread that explains how to change the admin username in WPMU, but be careful because it requires direct DB record updates:

This post has also prompted me to do a full security maintenance on all 4 of my sites. I&#039;m using a different plugin for limiting login attempts, but I surprisingly didn&#039;t have that on one of my popular sites, so I decided to give Login Lockdown a try on that one, since it&#039;s good to compare options to make sure you have the best one.</description>
